I received from Ann that Bob was involved in an accident at home. The family has set up a CaringBridge page to keep everyone up to date on Bob’s progress. Also the family requests that there not be any financial donations be made on CaringBridge on his behalf.
Dear Family and Friends,
On Monday, April 8th, my father, Bob Wheeler, was injured in an accident at home. He suffered severe burns on his back and shoulders. He is currently receiving treatment at the UNC Burn Center. Yesterday, he underwent surgery, which was “amazingly successful,” according to his surgeon. Fortunately, Daddy will not have to undergo multiple surgeries, as is the case for many burn victims. However, he still has a long road ahead of him. As most of you are aware, my father suffers from Dementia as well, which could add further complications to what will already be an extensive recovery. We expect he will continue to receive his care at the Burn Center for several months.
Our family greatly appreciates all of the love, support, prayers, and food that we have received from our neighbors and friends thus far.
At this time, what we need most is your prayers, love, and support. Only immediate family members are allowed to visit him, and he cannot receive any flowers or fruit while at the Burn Center.
I know there will be a time that meals and visits will be appreciated, hopefully when he is back at home with my mother.
Daddy is continuing to amaze us and his care team with how well he is recovering at this early stage. We know there will be ups and downs, but we feel confident that he is receiving the absolute best medical care that he can, and we are so thankful to everyone at the Burn Center for how wonderful they have to been to Daddy and our family. My brother and I are so grateful that our mother was able to successfully put the fire out as quickly as she did. Without her level headedness and immediate action, his injuries could have been far worse. After seeing some of the other patients yesterday, Daddy is one of the lucky ones.
We will continue to use this platform to keep you updated on my father’s recovery.
With love and appreciation,
The Wheeler and Ramsey families
